Will a baby get it's Oz citizenship automatically if born overseas with his/her father being an OZ?

Anywhere I can get more info, tks!

  1. Yes and no. What will happen is when the child is born the parents can automatically file for Citizenship via Descent (providing proof of paternity is provided, usually done via wedlock or the father's name being on the birth certificate). The child will need to be registered (as they are born overseas) but will automatically qualify if a parent is Australian at the time of the child's birth.

    BTW If you can get a look at the father's passport in the back it will say that "children born overseas to Australian parents do not automatically obtain Australian citizenship. Applications for register of birth should be made at the nearest Australian High Commission or consulate".
