Will a battery use its power if a current goes through it but there is no load? Please provide reasons~

  1. If there is no load no current would flow.

    Now, if current flows, yes the battery will lose it's storage. A chemical battery has a finite amount of stored energy. Chemically, electrons move from one material into another as the battery is used. The chemicals change as this process goes on. Eventually all available electrons have moved, the chemistry becomes neutral, the battery is dead.

    The primary reason why a battery has a finite shelf life is because leakage current inside and through the air causes slight current flow.


  2. By "no load" I'm assuming you mean open circuit.

    There is no way a current can flow in a battery if there is no load (open circuit), and therefore there is no power being used.

    Batteries do have some internal leakage current that uses a small amount of power, but that is down in the microamp level.
