Will a bread maker save me decent money then buying store made bread?

Will buying all the ingredients add to roughly the same cost?

If it is a very small savings I think I would rather have someone else make my bread. Thoughts?

  1. In the long run, no.  I don't think you will save much money.

However, two of the big benefits are that YOU control the ingredients and it usually tastes FAR better.

There aren't many things that taste better than freshly-baked bread.

  2. My friend has been  trying to make his own bread lately.  With all of his failed attempts and the cost of materials, it has cost him more to make his own than it costs to purchase the store bought.  And he is an excellent cook usually.  I'd personally go with store bought.

  3. I have had one for years and love it. It does save a little bit when making a loaf, but I find it saves heaps when making rolls, etc. The enjoyment of making it yourself makes it all worthwhile and the aroma from freshly cooked bread is fantastic - I say, "Go for it!"

  4. Have you ever tried slicing bread with a knife.  That alone is a good reason to forget the breadmaker and but someone else's.  After a while it'll just end up collecting dust on the counter.

  5. A loaf of store bought bread that is any way near edible costs near $4 . A 5 lb bag of bread flour, a jar of yeast, a bottle of oil, or some butter, a little salt, water, and you can make a lot of homemade wonderful bread in your bread maker. The taste and smell of warm  homemade bread is unsurpassed. As for slicing homemade bread, all you need is a good serrated bread knife, which every one should have, and it'll last you for a lifetime.I hit the jackpot when I bought my second bread machine at KMart two years ago. They were selling out the models, and were on sale at $16 each! My first bread machine lasted 14 years, and paid for itself many times over. As for time consuming, most all bread machines have a delayed timer, that you can set to make your bread while you are sleeping, and when you wake up in the morning, you will have FRESH homemade bread. Life doesn't get any better than that. So yes, you can save decent money by making your own bread. Go for it! Hope this helps you decide.

  6. No, as a loaf of bread is ~$1 and there isn't much way to get it cheaper.

Even if it were cheaper it will not be more than minimal savings.  Slicing homemade bread is a pain too :)

  7. What other people have said is correct, ingredients can sometimes cost more depending on what kind of bread you want to make.

The other problem you face is the rate of consumption - bread bought at the supermarket will last longer than bread you've made yourself due to the preservatives.  If you don't eat a lot of bread, you may end up wasting a lot.

  8. My grandmother has her own bread maker and she said that she loves to make her own bread at home but only for special treats because she said that it is very expensive to purchase everything to make the bread.

So i think that you should just buy your bread from the store

andd it takes a very longgg time to make the bread also
