I have a 91 escort and ive noticed that the transmission slips when im slowing down (slips when the spedometer is around 10 mph) the tank meter has never worked and other than that the cars been fine. all of a sudden my speedometer and odometer stopped working.

1. is it possible its just a fuse or loose wires?

2. if its a calble (praying its not) thats broke, would it make my transmission worse?

  1. Maybe, but only if the speedo not working and the tranny problem happened at the same time.

I had a 92 F-150. The speed sensor on the rear end went out causing the computer to give misinformation to the tranny causing jerky mistimed shifting.

  2. Question 1. No it is not a fuse but yes it could be a loose or broken wire.

Question 2. You don’t have a cable you have a (VSS) vehicle speed sensor.

Question 3. You would need to scan the vehicles computer first to see if the (VSS) is working.

Check the fluid and see if it is still red in color and that it is not burnt and or smells bad.

  3. i can,t see how a speedometer can make it slip. try changing the fluid and filter.
