My cat has a bladder infection. She is on antibiotics, but still has a week to go. She has been peeing outside her box (mostly in the tub, once or twice on clothes on the floor) for months. Now though she is peeing ALL the time outside the box AND pooping outside the box too, in the tub a lot, but just as much on the bed/floor this past week. My spouse is at his wits end with this problem. I would like to give her a chance to knock the infection w/the hope she will quit peeing/pooping everywhere, BUT what to do until then? The vet said she may need two rounds, so it could be 3 more weeks?

  1. Of course the cat will go outside of the litter box.

Would your spouse kick you out if you were ill and unable to defecate/urinate in the proper place? The cat is ill, there should be no thoughts crossing either of your minds regarding the cat's stay at your home - as I assume has already happened, judging by your spouse being at "his wits end with this problem". The cat needs to to get over this infection with the antibiotics and regenerate.

If your spouse cannot tolerate this, tell him to take a hike. No animal should be condemned simply because of an infection or any other type of medical problem, especially when its perfectly treatable. Please be patient with her and ask your spouse to do the same.

After the second round of medication, if she still continues to have this problem, take her back to the vet to run further tests, because there could be an underlying problem, such as stones.

Add - As for now, I'd suggest designating a room for the cat. Maybe putting newspaper or old cloth in the litter box as opposed to actual litter - which may encourage her to use the box.

  2. Yes... put some lemon juice in her water (2 or 3 drops) that will change the PH of her pee.

Clean the area where she went with pure alcohol... it removes all traces so she won't go back there.

When the antibiotics are done you have to replace the bacteria in her intestines... get acidophilus/ or you can give her yougert.. (never milk)

You might try changing the brand of sand you are using... try two differnt ones and seed them with her poo.

    good luck >^..^<

  3. Hi

I have cats and unfortunately, if they are poorly they generally go wherever they want! Do you clean the areas she does it in with bleach or ammonia based cleaners? If you do, this will only encourage her to do it more. The alkali salts contained in cat urine are very similar (to a cat's sense of smell) to the alkalis in these cleaners. Therefore she will keep going in these areas because to her, it smells like it's ok!

Best thing to do is to buy some neutraliser to spray on whenever she does have an accident and this should deter her a little bit. You can buy big bottles of this from most pet shops or online (just type it into google). Also put a couple of litter trays around the house so theres always somewhere close by for her to go.

Hope this helps and good luck!

  4. BE PATIENT WITH HER,...:)

SHE WILL BE FINE JUST KEEP GIVING HER MEDS,...SHE IS

SIMPLY NOT USING HER LITTER BOX FOR NOW,... BECAUSE

IT IRRITATES HER LITTLE KITTY & p**p AREA,...ONCE THE

INFECTION IS CLEARED UP SHE WILL BEGIN TO USE HER BOX

    AGAIN,...LET HER USE OLD RAGS,...NEWS PAPERS,..FOR NOW

HOPE SHE FEELS BETTER SOON,...BEST WISHES,....

  5. yes, absolutely. Did you also have her checked for crystals/stones? This is another cat problem which occurs causing such reaction and pain.

  6. Yes they will. My cat had the same problem. We took him to the vet. They have us medicane and a special food that will help that. Make sure to check for crystals and stones. Are cat was actually peeing out crystals. The food made him all better and he wasn't peeing/pooping out of the littler box.

    The food we use is

Perscription science diet c/d multi care for felines

Try that it worked for us and the vet clinic said it helped alll those other kittys with that problem.

    I hope I helped!!

Also where ever he/she pees make sure you scrub it out so they can't smell where theywere so they don't keep going and keep peeing there.

  7. it could be the infection, but it wont stop when the infection ends, as she has learned not to use the box.

keep the box clean, cats wont use a dirty box. clean where she has an accident with bleach or rubbing alcohol, cats go where they smell them selfs. when you catch her going outside the box, sternly say no, put her in the box, praise her.

  8. Most probably. If she has a bladder infection, she will not be able to get to the box in time. If the vet can't do anything, you can't either.

  9. I have two cats, and one has bladder infections quite often because of something in some cat foods. And my other cat, just recently had a kidney stone that we had to get removed. It is possible it started as a bladder infection and now has become a kidney stone. And yes cats tend to pee and p**p outside the litter box when this happens. For some reason, cats go in the tub a lot when this happens. I would recommend asking your vet to check for kidney stones. Also, another good idea would to put the cat in one room with a litter box, food and water. That will help keep the mess in one area.

    I hope I helped!
