Will a charge from my juvenile record bar me from employment?

I have a aggravated assault w/deadly weapon charge on my juvenile record. I was 14 at the time and It is the only felony charge I have. I will graduate with a BA degree in Criminology and I wish to become a Homicide Detective but I know I must first become a street cop. Are my chances blown? Some people have told me I can never get a law enforcement job, and others have said I can? Any experiences?

I would call the police department and ask, you don't have to give them your name.

Why not contact the police HQ and ask them? Won't they have a careers advisor?
