Question:

Will a college I apply to take this into consideration?

I live in another country, but I am planning on applying to an American college (pre-law). And then there is the financial aid. My parents have a combined income of over 200.000$, but I live in a country that is more expensive to live in, and they pay about 40 - 45% of their income in taxes, and gas prices for example, are 12$ a gallon (no, I'm not kidding).

When I apply for financial aid, will they take into consideration where I live?

  1. When applying for financial aid students in the US students use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, there is a section that asks for you to list your prior year income and the taxes you paid, etc. There is a section that asks for the same information from your parents. The college/university's financial aid office will ask for copies for your tax return (or the equivalent in your country). This deducts the amount the student and their parents paid in taxes from income.

There is more to consider than cost of living (exchange rates, etc).

I am not sure if you need to/are eligible to fill out the FAFSA or if there is a form better suited for international students.

Contact the financial aid office of the college/university you plan on attending.
