Will a dog eat a live canary?

I want a canary and I have a dog if I let out the canary will my dog eat it

Chances are it will try to at least play with it....probably ending in the death of the bird.

What kind of dog do you have, and how old is it?

Some dogs are used for hunting, and would go after it.  I have a dog that was only 4 months and she went outside to go to the bathroom and jumped into the air to catch a bird.  She was only 10 lbs.  I wouldn't recommend it.

However, when I was young I had a budgie and a toy poodle, and the toy poodle was trained very well and they were fine being out together.

Only if the dog is hungry, just make sure you feed your dog every hour.

Yes, dogs will eat small animals like cats. When you do get one just put the canary in your room and keep the door shut so it stays safe.

they will.  even if you train your pet to behave around the bird....leave them alone and the dog might only kill it and not eat it.  some might eat it just because it's the next normal dog thing to do even if the dog isnt hungry.
