a ' tuned exhaust system' and or an unrestricted exhaust system can increase horse power as well as produce an increase in miles/ gallon.

first research what your state laws will or will not allow for street legal operation if you care to stay legal. then research your specific engine set up. make -model- h.p and what ever other modifications have already been incorporated you will find a wide variety of different optional solutions. then balance cost expected /performance increase and degree of difficulty to figure out what you want- need - can afford.  

magazines, car parts catalogs, on-line and car clubs can all be very informative.

Depends on the exhaust....but most will give u between a 2hp and 5 hp gain...

A good exhaust and muffler will give you good "back pressure." A shot exhaust will give you poor "back pressure". Replacing the exhaust will give you better acceleration and control. I'm not a mechanic, I don't know about horsepower."

depends on the car but, by themselves, not usually only more noise which makes people think they have more power....when really all they have is a lighter wallet
