i have 2 female rats. anna and molly. molly just gave birth to 14 pups 3 days ago (july 4th, 2008) but after day one, doesnt seem interested in being with her pups. anna on the other hand has been with the pups ever since. they are even suckling on her. anna obviously doesnt have any milk to give so ive been putting molly in a shoe box with her pups to make sure they suckle on her for a bit.

my question is... if molly still decides not to take care of her pups and the pups consistently suckle on anna, will anna begin lactating?

im a first time rat owner and have only owned anna and molly for 3 weeks. molly was pregnant when i bought her... i had no idea. haha.

HELP!

i dont want the babies to starve and poor anna is trying to pick up the slack.

  1. I don't know the answer but try these web sites. I use to have 20 rats and I used these sites all the time.
