Question:

Will a grocery store grind chicken/turkey on request?

My cat's diet needs to change to a raw diet which calls for ground meat (chicken, turkey, rabbit) including the bones. I don't have a meat grinder and I'm contemplating buying one to do it myself- but I was wondering if anyone knew if any major grocery stores like Kroger's deli would grind the meat for me if I buy it there (saving me the cost and dirty work).

  1. they usually have ground turkey and chicken by the ground hamburger..

  2. yes most major stores will cut your meat as you wish..Kroger's I know will do it.

  3. some stores already have it ground its in the meat section.

  4. If they have a proper butchery they will do it if you ask.

Check the prices before they mince it, and after, per kg, they will charge more..

In the long term it may pay to buy a meat grinder, if you haven't got a food processor or a blender.

  5. Go to a specific meat market (that is all they sell) - but are you sure about the bones?  I raised Persian cats for 15 yrs and bought organ meat - liver, kidney, heart mixed with ground beef  frozen in 5 pound pkts - No bones.  Usually you can strike a deal with them to save organ meats and other lean scraps and grind for you.  I would really ck with the vet on the bone thing though.  Also you know the ground meat should be a supplement with a good quality dry food as the basic diet..

    Good luck.

  6. my grocery store will.   most all grocery stores w/an actual meat counter can do this for you at no charge.   i hate handling raw chicken, so i buy the boneless b*****s in the package, and my butcher guy will cut them into tenders, and rewrap them.  it's never a problem.

  7. Kroger & Piggly Wiggly in my town will, grind meat but not the  bones!!! They would say it would tear there epensive machine up.

  8. I would try the butcher at a meat market I don't think they do that at the regular market.  If you have a Mexican Market in your neighborhood they usually grind the meat right at the store.  Give them a try.
