Question:

Will a hair dryer get rid of damp air?

I live in a very damp house. Obviously, it's very expensive to heat up the place to solve the problem, plus being summer I don't think my dad will be too pleased. I thinking about de-humidifiers, but need to look around for one - but in the meantime - will using my hairdryer for my bedroom help?

  1. no,  air quality is job of the air-conditioner. Make sure it is working properly before buying a dehumiditier

  2. Your Hair Dryer is doing nothing, for your humidity.

Your turning water vapor to steam ,then back to water vapor.

A dehumidifier will collect the water in a container to be emptied out later.

Get a dehumidifier like you thought of.

Heating the place up wont help either, the A/C is more helpful than heat, the A/C will collect the water in the air on its coils ,and it will drain out of the house via drain line.If you already have the A/C on ,and its still very humid, check the pan under your unit ,and make sure thats it draining properly. Not saying this is the reason ,but it could be one of the reasons.

Cold attracts moisture out of the air ,like a cold drink on a hot day. Heat will add water to the air. Like a steaming cup of coffee.

    Good Luck Froggy

  3. The hairdryer only removes the small amount of moisture that is on hair and displaces it to the surrounding air - it sounds like you need to remove lots of moisture from the surounding air and surfaces, so the hair dryer won't be up to the job.  A dehumidifier is designed specifically to remove moisture from large volumes of air  - so it is what you need. Depending on the size of the house, you may need several.

You may want to investigate the sources of moisture - is the roof tight? Are the gutters and downspouts clear?
