Question:

Will a hotel allow my husband to pay upon checkout?

I messed up and made a late credit card payment that won't be posted until the 17th of this month.

My husband is being sent by the Army to Walter Reed to have lasik eye surgery but they have to pay for their hotel room and the army will reimburse them later. We don't have the money right now and we won't until the 17th.

Is it possible that the hotel they stay at may be able to hold onto his credit card until the 17th and then charge him when he checks out?

  1. i dought it maybe your suppose to pay when you first check in though

  2. He can ask for advanced pay before he goes so he has cash.  Or if they issued him a government credit card he can use that.

Or if you can not afford it,  post pone the trip..   Lasik is purely elective procedure and you can delay it a month until you get your finances in better shape.

  3. Generally, you don't pay your hotel bill until the day you check out.  They may use a credit card to hold the reservation, but it isn't charged until then.  Military lodging can be different...a call to the lodging office on the base will answer the question.

  4. They are going to charge you when you check out of the hotel.  They aren't running a charity.  You should call your credit card company and try to get a higher limit.  Or maybe borrow money from someone else.

  5. Unless you are quite late or at your limit, they will not suspend your credit.  If you are at your limit, you might call them and ask them to increase your limit or pay by phone.

If not, he will likely have to stay with someone else.

  6. the hotel doesn't charge until check out anyway.  they may place a hold on the credit card to cover the expected  charges, but that's about it.

  7. Call customer service at your credit card company and explain your situation. Chances are, they'll cut you a break, especially if you pay your bills on time most of the time.  They can't stand to lose too many good customers right now.

  8. I work at the Front desk of a hotel and here's one option:

If you have friends or family who can put down a card for the duration of the stay you can call the hotel and have them fill out a Credit Card Authorization form. It basically acts as collateral until checkout. You are not charged until you checkout. Then when checkout comes you can put down your method of payment.

We do that for people all the time.

  9. you should call the hotel manager directly and explain the situation. assuming your husband is in the  Army, the mgr/ hotel may be willing to work something out. if that doesn't work try the credit card company.

I hope it works out for him!
