I have an hc30 and the htdz mic and was told they would work together, but the mic. plug doesn't seem to fit in the camera.

  1. Get the manual for your camcorder here:

Refer to page 138. See item 15. This is a 1/8" (3.5mm) mic in jack.

I could not find any details on the "htdz ht-81 shot gun mic".

If it is an XLR based condenser mic that is self-powered (uses a battery), you can use an XLR-1/8" adapter tale. If the mic requires phantom power, you would want to use an XLR adapter from BeachTek or juicedLink that can provide phantom power.

This camcorder does NOT have manual audio control. If you are recording LOUD audio, it will overdrive the auto-mic gain circuit and cause the recorded audio to clip - sounding very muddy. There is no way to correct this unless you use an XLR adapter with mic gain controls. I suggest either the BeachTek or juicedLink units with audio level LEDs so you can see what sort of audio is making it to the camcorder (and adjust the k***s if it is too loud).
