  1. You will need a US to UK voltage converter, not a transformer.

The US voltage is 110 volts and ours is 220 volts. Connect a US lappie up to that and it will fry. Get one at http://www.maplin.co.uk They cost about £16.00

  2. yes it will. they have a transformer built in to the power pack. I've tried it.

  3. I would be uncertain of previous answers, in that the cheaper USA laptop will work fine, but the USA power adaptors are 110 or 115 Volts, wheras the UK is generally 240 V.

You may well need one of those "universal" transformers to charge it up.

  4. Yes,I went to US and bought a laptop,I went back to UK and it Worked Perfectly.I saw one the same as I bought in UK AND it was Really Expensive.

  5. In addition to the other answers which people forgot to mention is, if it goes wrong under warranty how are you going to return it? Some warranties are not valid outside the country they were issued in.

It will be declarable in the UK and may be subject to Import duty and VAT. Due to the security any computer is suspect due to the fact that they are used as trigger devices.

Also it was announced about a week or two ago that US Airport/Airline Security were seizing all computer equipment before you board, especially if it was hidden in luggage. So be warned.

  6. Yes, it will work.

You'll need to buy an adapter (shaver type adapter) to plug the charger in, though, as the U.S. uses a different type of mains plug to the U.K. This should cost no more than a couple of quid.

(The U.S. also uses a different voltage, 110v instead of 240v, but that does not matter as laptop chargers are universal and can work on any mains voltage.)

There are two potential problems with buying a U.S. laptop for use in the U.K.:

The U.S. keyboard is slightly different to the U.K. one (no Pound currency sign, and some of the punctuation symbols are in a different place).

You won't be able to return the laptop if it develops a fault, as the U.S. warranty will not be valid in the U.K.

  7. yes certainly (please choose me for a best answer i am only on level one) i will help you lots if you choose me i am a computer/laptop expert

  8. Yes it will work in the UK. I took my laptop to the US last year and had no problems with it.

  9. We use 240V but if the laptop is powered by 110V you can buy a transformer to run on 240V

  10. yes but you may need to change power supply

  11. Should be fine as long as you adjust the power input to 240v or 230v.

    Hope this helps.

    Dan

  12. Yes no problem, I bought this one in NY last year.
