I have purchased 4 drivers so far and have lost money on them trading them back in to ***** Sporting Goods so this time I want to know the right driver for me. Will a launch monitor that certain golf shops have determine that for me?? Thanks!!

  1. Ask Happy Gilmore.

  2. I feel that anything the pros use on a regular basis is probably working.  A launch monitor is great in determining both the shaft and loft for optimum distance.  However, I would suggest using a launch monitor on an outdoor driving range.  I play to a scratch handicap and the loft for optimum distance had me hitting the ball much higher than I liked and I never would have known if I had been indoors.  I went from a 9.5 to an 8.5 and lost some distance, but I have never been happier with a driver.  In conclusion, launch monitors are absolutely wonderful for the scientific aspect of golf, but as we all know golf is a game of feel.  If a machine has you doing something that doesn't feel right, go with your gut.

P.S.   Find a golf shop that will let you demo a driver then take a different one out on the course every weekend until you find something you like for 18 holes.  I've wasted a lot of money buying clubs just from hitting them on the range.
