  1. i surf in 60 f water and i normally wear a 3/4 wetsuit. i have done it before in board shorts and no top at all but wouldn't recomend it. extremely uncomfortable surf. freezing cold and i got a rash on my chest from the wax. only lasted 15-20 minutes because of the cold. 50 f is definately cold enough to kill you. anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't have a clue

  2. no way in h**l. u could kill urself so easy. u couldnt pay me to do dat

  3. pshhh, NO!!! get a wetsuit man! plus rashguards make you colder.

  4. sorry dude, rashguards are for just that- preventing rashes- but they won't stop the cold. You'll need a wetsuit for those conditions.

  5. yeah dude rashies still keep in sum heat u'll be fine for like an hour and a harf then get cold

  6. i've done it before and have felt the early symptoms of hypothermia. my body was beginning to shut down the use of my limbs and i started cramping up real bad especially in the hips.

the answer is no, unless you have the fat content of a seal.

  7. no, not even close

  8. Are you joking? That is freezing. You should be wearing a 4/3 in that temp. And if you are a bootie guy, you should be working the booties too. And if you are super awesome the hood :).

  9. No. Rash Guard in 50 degreee water equals death.

  10. Rash guards are designed to dry quickly, and not hold the water, so they don't weigh you down. That being said, however, wearing wet clothing in the open air accelerates the rate at which body heat is lost. Therefore, you will not only feel colder (cooler?) but actually speed up heat loss and risk hypothermia. Buy a cheap wetsuit its really worth it.

In the "olden days" when I started surfing 42 years ago, we would surf in water in the high 50's without wetsuits, if the air temperature was really warm (that would be a normal Memorial Day weekend temp in the Northeast US). But it sure wasn't comfortable. There's no excuse to do that with the availability of good flexible wet suits today. I wear a full length 4/3 suit with booties 'till the water hits the 60's, and I hate wearing rubber.

  11. NO!!! You will die. In 50 degree water you will need a 2/3 mm wetsuit at least if not a 3/4mm.

I am a lifeguard and yes you can die from wearing just a long sleeve rash guard. It is extremely easy to get hypothermia and people do die from hypothermia.

  12. u would definatly not feel comfortable. u will not die but man get a wetsuit. but if you want to do that then go ahead. Dude trust me its cold

  13. I wear a 4/3 in 58 F water. I know a couple people that surf Santa Cruz in the winter where it hits 50 F, and they are in 5/4/3 + hood + booties + gloves.

So you'll be a little cold.

  14. r u crazy?
