  1. A male won't "kill" a female, but if allowed to pollinate the female will put forth more effort into producing seed than good smoke. Unpollinated females keep producing more and more resinous buds in an effort to attract pollen, thus the higher quality of "sinsemillia."

Look here for photos comparing male vs. female.

Females have slender pistils with one or two white hairs protruding. Males have rounder pods that tend to grow in bunches, looking rather like small broccoli. These begin to show in the nodes on each branch, starting a week or two after daylight hours equal nighttime hours, or 12/12.

Sorry, but the only way to tell s*x in a seed is to grow it out. Color has nothing to do with it!

  2. Males will not kill females. They just give them seeds. If you want sinsemilla (no seed weed) then the male has got to go. The male doesn't bud, doesn't smoke, just blows his wad (pollen) so the female can develop seeds and the cycle of life can continue.

You can tell the male because when the plant goes into flower, the male will never get hairs and buds - instead it will get little "balls" that open up into very small flowers that drop the pollen. Keep the pollen away from the female, or you're gonna get seeds. If you want seeds, then I'd suggest using a q-tip to get some pollen, and spread on just a few buds on the female plant. Then pull up that male and throw it away. Too much pollen = too d**n many seeds.
