Will a master's in graphic design help?

I want to be a creative designer for an Ad agency or a magazine. I'm getting my B.A. in Advertising and wanted to know would a masters in graphics help

  1. I agree. In my opinion, a masters is overrated. Experience and skill are more valuable in the design industry. Especially if you were thinking about going straight from a BA to studying for you masters. If you did that, you would finally be done with school and be over-qualified for any entry-level position and under experienced for higher jobs. Let your work show for itself. And after a few years in the field, if you still want to, go back and get your masters.


  2. I would say no. Graphic Design is a great field with a lot of opportunity, but I think especially with this career experience is so much more valuable than anything else you can get. If you have past work experience to show off to an employer I think that is far more impressive than the degree. If you're any good at graphic design as it is, then you'll probably have good opportunity to show off your skills in your first job, helping you build a much stronger resume for when you end up going for the one you really want.
