I've heard that getting a mechanic's lien may be a possible solution to this situation. Is that true, if so how does it work? What has to be verified and how?

  1. Help Who? And What is the situation?

  2. I don't think that it would apply in your case.

A lien is for monies due a person or business and the vehicle is taken as payment.

You may want to explain to your sister-in-law that with her name on the title, she will be held financially responsible. Most people want their name off a title that is not in their possession. How are you getting the car registered every year if the title is in her name?

  3. I do not see a specific question but a mechanics lien by definition is securing a financial interest in real property,(home, car etc), arising from a broken contract for payment of services rendered and not paid for.  It is a somewhat long process, but a way to be paid for your work.
