Will a new guitar help me get better?

i have been playing the guitar for 6 months pretty much everyday. and i love to play it. and i want to advance as a guitarist. would a better guitar help me get better.

any advice on what kinda of guitar to look for?

i have a jasmine takamine ES-45C.

Yes, getting a new guitar will help you. But before you buy a new one, go to music shops and try out some. Also, before considering getting a new guitar, I would also consider a new amp. A really nice guitar wont sound that well on a 15 watt amp. As for a guitar, it depends. If your into lead, go for Ibanez, but as for anything else, go for Epiphone or Jackson or one of the other brands.
