No.  It will give you faster acceleration.  Depending on the weight, you may notice a little drop in top speed.

Here is an excellent article about how Zuma variators work.  It discusses the differences between the way performance vs stock units work.  How long your Zuma lasts, depends on how hard you ride it and how well you maintain it.  A performance viariator won't make a difference unless you plan to work the engine unit harder too.
