Will a notebook work without the battery in it??

It depends upon when your notebook was made; almost all current notebooks will work without a battery in them but some older laptops (some dells come to mind) will not. While plugged directly into the wall.

no. because when you plug it in, the power is being sent to your battery to power it. if there's no battery, the power will be wasted.

Actually if you plug it in, most modern laptops can run without the battery. They just have to be plugged in the entire time (defeating the point of a laptop).

Yes. After you remove the affected battery, just plug the AC adapter into an outlet and then into the notebook.
