Will a pool screen enclosure protect those within it from a lightning strike?

  1. No it will not, even if the enclosure is made of metal. Steel and aluminum are both very good conductors of electricity and if either is hit by lightning they transmit the current to the ground, which you are part of if you are in the water within the enclosure. Considering the massive amount of voltage and amperage in a bolt of lightning (millions) it would be very easy to absorb a life threatening charge.

  2. Wrong question.  Better questions: 1) Has anyone in a swimming pool ever been killed by lightning? (No)   2) Does a car or a house protect you from lightning? (Usually)  3) Does a tent protect you from lightning? (Not much)  4) Does anything you put over your head short of a lightning rod protect you? (Yes, but how much depends on lots of things)  5) Do you need protection from lightning in or around a pool?  (No more than anywhere else)  --AGF
