  1. NO it won't!!! When you plant a tree in a pot the tree is confined to that pot and its roots have nowhere to go. The only thing that would happen is the tree would die if you dont give it a bigger pot and or plant it in the ground.

  2. Yes it could do it depends on how big the tree will grow, size of the pot and the material the pot is made from.

  3. Everyone so far is right! Yes it will & no it won't are the right answers depending on the plant and the material the pot is made of. If the plant in question has heavy, strong roots, and potted in a thin pot of any material, it will probably crack out. The first thing that the roots will do is circle around and around the interior of the pot until it can't circle around anymore. Sometimes you will even see the roots growing upwards and out of the top of the pot too. You will notice a decline in the plant's growth and vigor long before you see any of this. You can avoid all of this if you root-prune the plant in question every year. Once a year, take the plant out of the pot and cut off all the roots that have circled around. Then you can straighten out anything that looks like it will do it again and remove any dead roots. This is a good time to refresh the potting mixture. In a couple of weeks you can then give it a dose of fertilizer as well. This works for bonsai, it should work for you as well.

  4. the pot wont crack open, don't worry... the tree's growth will be stunted... i grew a neem tree inside my house, even after 5 years it looked like a big plant, that's all... try and you may get your own bonsai tree :-)

  5. It really depends on the type of tree and of course the size of the pot! Eventually When the tree becomes pot bound its roots will try to leave the pot through any holes in the bottom, this destroys plastic pots and would probably crack clay pots too.

But as i said before it depends on what tree and the size of the pot, i could help further if you elaborate a little.

  6. You really need a very heavy strong pot for a tree  - it depends on what sort of tree it is, and how big it will grow.
