Will a few power outages hurt my lcd tv? It's hooked to a surge protector and if I'm home during a lightning storm I turn it off and unplug it but what if the power goes out all of a sudden?

  1. A power outage hurts nothing; it is power surges that cause electronic devices to fail.  Having it connected through a surge protector & turning the device(s) off during electrical storms is about as much as you can reasonably do to protect yourself.  Being a LCD TV doesn't make it more susceptable to power outage failures compared to a standard CRT TV.

However, the extreme majority of failed devices occur when something is powered on...so in a round-about way a power outage -could- theoritically shorten the life of a device that is already nearing failure.

  2. if it is plugged to  a transistor it should be fine, but you have to change the fuse or breaker ..... depends on the surge .... a timer might be a good investment though .....
