I just turned 18 years old and I just got out of school a few weeks ago.I was planning on going on a plane, but I was unable to get a photo ID from the DMV and I don't have my drivers licence so would my high school ID work? I'm leaving tomorrow so I don't have much time.

  1. If you are leaving the country, you will need a passport. A school ID will not get you far. Actually a school ID won't get you much besides discounts.  You must have a government issued ID.  If you are travelling domestically then you might want to bring a birth certificate and something else of legal matter that shows who you are.  Sorry.

  2. There are other options you can use as photo identification at the airport. A full list is here:

  3. Airlines WILL accept alternative I.D.....just call your airline and ASK.  Now...you are an adult, you need adult I.D. and you need to take care of that promptly.    When you return from your trip , get a certfied copy of your birth certificate if you do not have one, and a state i.d. card...you will be needing them for many things....getting a job, cashing a check, renting an apartment.  You should also have your S.S. card.

  4. School ID isn't gonna cut it if your 18 years old. You have to get a state ID.  Go to your local DMV or Secretary of state and get an ID.  It is illegal not to have ID anyway.

  5. No way dude!

  6. No. It must be a state-issued ID, like a driver's license or ID card issued by a DMV. Do you have a passport?
