Question:

Will a scrap yard take (what I think) is a cast iron sink all broken up?

I have what I was told, a cast iron sink. I broke it apart with a sledge hammer to get it out of the house. I was told the scrap yard would give money for it. But it looks like cement on the inside. What? And no, a magnet will not stick to what looks like cement. Do I waste my time going to scrap yard?

  1. They will probably give a few pennies for it.They know what an object is supose to weigh

  2. It is probably a concrete sink. I have had several of those. They were real common for use in a utility room. I'm guessing if it looks like cement, it is.

  3. Cast iron goes for around $490 per ton as of aug 18 2008.  prices do fluctutate.

  4. Ya Id do it...  was cast iron is like .10 or .05 cents per pound, so if u have 300lb sink or tub, you could get anywhere from like 15 to 30 bucks.

  5. Ask your local scrap yard!

  6. What looks like cement is probably stove enameling. What about the other side. Yes take it to the scrapyard.
