Will a soft mouth guard (made by the dentist to treat TMJ) also function as a retainer?

Despite some shifting, I am trying to keep my teeth in place after several years with braces as a teenager. I have also had problems with TMJ off and on have one of those soft squishy mouth guards made for my teeth.

Will that alone prevent my teeth from further crowding, or do I need to use my Hawley retainer as well?

You might need to talk to your orthodontist about wearing both....did they make the mouth gard to fit over the retainer?

Did they know you had one?

The soft guard will probably not do the job needed........
