Any new car depreciates in value (significantly) the very minute you drive it off the lot.

HOWEVER ... given the rising cost of gas, a Prius will likely HOLD its value better than many cars will.

Right now is a great time to buy a small, fuel-efficient car.  Within a few years, the price of small cars are predicted to go through the roof because they are and will be so much in demand.

So, if you buy a Prius now, in a few years you'll have something of value, whether you decide to keep it or sell it.

No. Even with gas being as high as it is, and the demand for the vehicle also high, they are still too mass-produced to expect them to APPRECIATE in value.

Not appreciate, but it will depreciate slowly because the car is in such demand.  The auto makers should certainly start making more cars or Hybrids that get 50 miles to the gallon or greater with car sales plummeting and gas prices skyrocketing.
