  1. In the words of every operations manager I ever worked for... there is no good reason for a trucker to ever be out of work so any driver who's taken more than 2 weeks off between jobs doesn't want to work.  You do however have a reasonable excuse for it but I would some how put that explanation right in your application.  Take the time to type it and print it off, trucking applications require 10 year employment history and you must explain any gaps anyway.

You don't say if you have trucking experience or not.  If you do not have at least 3 years otr now is not a good time to be looking for a job in trucking.  Many companies have closed and others have cut back considerably.  For the first time ever there really is drivers on unemployment who can't find jobs driving.

    Good luck.

  2. I don't see why not, if there is nothing in your background that is detrimental to the position. Just remember...trucking is not much better than the housing market right now. Good luck.

  3. As long as you can prove that you were self employed then there shouldn't be any problem. Any new employer doesn't like it when there is a gap in between jobs and you can't prove as to what you were doing in that time.

Do you already have a CDL or are you looking at going to school? I'm just curious as to why you would choose driving as a new career. It's not the glamorous job that TV and movies portray it to be.

If you are seriously interested in making a change and becoming a driver then I can give you a place that will give you invaluable and honest information. See a friend and I started up an on-line group dedicated to new and wanna-be drivers so that they can get the cold hard facts about the industry. We have a wonderful mentorship program set up for those who care to make use of it. We have tons of information in our File, Database, and Link sections that will help you. We are over 400 members strong with many "seasoned" drivers on board, a couple of ex-state troopers, a safety advisor, and a few others that work behind the scenes in the industry all ready to help you with any questions you may have. The group is free to join and if you decide its not for you then you are always free to leave. If this is something you think you might want to look into we would welcome you. When you go to join it will ask you for a fifty word comment as to why you want to join...just put in that Susan sent you and you will be approved with no problem. I hope to see you there and if not then I wish you luck in your career choice....
