Question:

Will aerosol spray at cigarrettes cause a fire??

My neighbors above me smoke and put the cigarrettes on the floor of their balcony so the smoke goes into my living room windows.

I have been spraying aerosol air freshener out my window and up at the neighbors to hopefully annoy them with my smell as much as their smoke smell annoys me, but can this cause a fire if I spray a cigarrette through their balcony floor??

  1. No,only if you spray it directly at the fire on the butt. Go up and ask them to use a butt can.

  2. It is very unlikely, as the butt would be pushed out of the way by the spray. It is more likely to extinguish it as the butt is only smouldering and at a lower temperature.

Spray some methylated spirits up there and get a good fire going, maybe then they will think twice about dropping the butts after that.

Best thing is to keep that window closed and open others away from the balcony for fresh air, or put a fan blowing air out of your window so the smoke will be repelled. Have another window open in your flat so the air comes in somewhere else and out that window. It could be worse, we had smokers below us and all the smoke came up into our window, stuck on the fly screens too so it always stank, had to wash them all the time
