Question:

Will aging white female Hillary Clinton supporters really vote for McCain?

McCain: the man with a horrible record on women's issues, the man who will overturn your right to choose in the Supreme Court if elected. Just because their precious queen didn't win the nomination?

I keep hearing them say things like "Hillary 2012!" that just makes me laugh. If McCain wins this year as a result of their support for him, then Hillary's political career will be tarnished for not having kept her worshipers in line and thus costing the Democrats the election and she will have a much harder time running again.

  1. McCain cannot overturn any SCOTUS ruling. Only they can do that, and only if a case is brought before them that will allow for them to review the case.

He cannot dismiss justices, so until someone retires or dies, we'll still have the same crew.

Also, if Roe was overturned, that would only put the decision of whether or not to legalize abortion into the states hand, not make it illegal.  If you live in a blue state, you'll not see a difference.

Now on to the rest of the question...

I think that the mudslinging within the D Primary will hurt the chances of Obama getting all of Hillary's supporters, there are some hurt feelings.  I can't say either way though...

I've been a McCain supporter from day 1.

  2. I sure as heck would never vote for anouther Republican period because we have practicly slipped back into the dark ages becuase of Republican leadership for the last eight years.

I was a Hilary supporter but now i'll vote for Obama or for that matter the last Democrat standing.

    Enough is Enough

  3. I wasn't voting for any of those three anyways.  I am voting for Bob Barr because he is the most intelligent canidate and the most familiar with the bill of rights.

After all vote for a women who keeps a cheater, a man who hates women, or a man that claims he is a reformed Muslim.... If I must vote for the lesser of the evils I vote for none of them....

Go check out Bob Barr... You may find he supports exactly what you are looking for.

  4. First off, the term is "cougars", not "aging white female Hillary Clinton supporters", LOL.

There are things I like and dislike about both candidates. I think it would be OK to cross party lines for a better candidate. Now it's time to think about who would be better. No perfect solution is really in sight, but I am leaning toward McCain. He might be a good choice at this point in time. No other candidate has as much military experience, and military action may be necessary in the not to distant future. I don't think he is an enemy of women's rights, but he is conservative to a degree. Besides, those issues are usually the domain of Congress and the Supreme Court, not the presidency.

  5. Actually, in reference to a comment I've read about here, I don't believe Roe Vs. Wade will be overturned even if another right-wing judge is appointed to the Supreme Court. That's because conservatives have been using the abortion issue for years to rally support from their political base. If it is outlawed, then what else will they use to get that support? They may scream and yell about the evils of abortion but they don't actually want it banned.

  6. First off, I have to say that anyone who would vote for McCain because they wanted to vote for Hillary, paid absolutely ZERO attention to the actual issues and is merely voting on gender, definitely NOT politics.

Second: Can someone explain to me why the h**l anyone EVER votes for the president simply because of their abortion stance?

Good lawdy, did no one pay attention in civics?

THE PRESIDENT DOESN'T HAVE THE POWER TO OVERTURN ROE V. WADE!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: even so, the senate still votes for confirmation and with a dem majority a right wing justice doesn't stand a chance.

second, there would have to be a very d**n good reason (with new evidence btw) to reopen the case and overturn it.  It is not nearly as simple as politicians would lead you to believe. A federal ban is impossible.  The best they could hope for is allowing states to govern the issue, and even so would require a new justice to do so.

And it's "estimated" that 2 justices could be replaced during the next presidential term, and that because of their support for roe, mccain could in effect tip the balance.

That is of course IF a roe supporting justice is willing to step down during mccains hypothetical reign knowing the probable outcome.  Doubtful at best.

So yea, IF mccain gets elected and IF a roe supporting justice steps down and IF mccain finds a right wing justice and IF the senate becomes a conservative majority and IF it confirms, theres a snowballs chance in h**l Roe might be overturned.

And if if's were fifths we'd be drunk as S**t.

    Not worried at all.

  7. The fact is, we live in a first-to-the-finish, two-party democracy, and intelligent people (which, in most elections, seems to include all but about 2-5% of voters) recognize that we usually have to vote for people who don't 100% represent our views, but just do the best job of it out of the viable candidates.

Personally, if I got to stick my ideal candidate up there, they would look a lot like Obama (they might also be female, g*y, and atheist, just to break down a few more barriers of the Oval Office), but they'd also support increased nuclear fission reliance as part of a workable energy solution, and they'd put a whole lot of emphasis on supporting the development of fusion, and a lot less of throwing dollars in the trash in the form of biofuels and other greenwash.  They'd also take a more definitive stance on g*y rights, and they'd put a big emphasis on reforming the education system to more resemble the standards in Europe and Japan (starting with ejecting ineffective (but cheap!) testing methods).  They also wouldn't be afraid to jack up the progressive tax to, say, FDR levels.

But, given the choices of Obama and McCain, Obama represents me a whole lot better than McCain does, and I'm not going to pretend to support McCain to try to make the point that Obama needs to conform to ALL of my views.  'Cause guess how Bush got elected in the first place?  Ah, yes, Nader voters.  And I'm not one for electing Dubya 2: This Time It's Personal for the sake of making a point.

  8. Nope I'm voting for her!   Have you heard of a write-in?

"'political career will be tarnished for not having kept her worshipers in line"    LOL voters have a right to vote as they please.

  9. Some are voting against Obama, they dont care who it is against him.
