  1. No.

  2. No.

The stimulus check is mailed out based on the last two digits of your social security number, so amending your return should have no effect on it.

  3. vb is right.  Yes it will.  I filed an ammeded return on April 13.  I received the second notice from the irs a couple of weeks ago that stated I should receive my stimulus check by June 6th, of course I didn't receive it.  I finally got thru to speak with someone at the IRS yesterday,  who told me my amended return was approved and that I should expect both the additional rebate check and the stimulus check within a couple of weeks (not direct deposit but a paper check for both).

  4. Oh yes it will!

When the IRS logs your 1040X in, it flags your account that there are changes in the works.  The flag does not indicate whether the 1040X is a 2nd refund or a balance due (or that if it was if you sent a check for the full balance).  Normally it doesn't really matter.

The rebate program runs.  It adds the stimulus to your tax account (this is based on the original return).  The stimulus amount will stay there until the amended return is completed.  Once done, the stimulus will go out as a check.

1040X processing is traditionally 8-12 weeks, but the IRS is inundated this year, so 12 to 14 weeks is the norm.

  5. It may!  It will depend on the status of your account on April 15th.  What little the IRS has published on this issue would suggest that you could get two checks if the amendment makes any change in the amount of your stimulus.  The only thing you can do is check "wheres my refund" at the IRS web site.  They say not to do so until the week of your scheduled mailing.
