Will an American standard gas mask replacement canister fit onto a GP5 Soviet Gas Mask?

I have a Soviet GP5 gas mask, with a canister. The canister has expired and is no longer useful, i wanted to buy a new one, but the GP5 canisters are not on slae anymore. Will the American replacements fit on to it or not, and if they don't is an adapter readily available?

NO! The thread size is different. I know of no adapters.
