Will an I/O produce more power than a jet motor with the same amount of horsepower?

I have a jet ski with 155 hp and am looking to get an I/O bow rider and want to have enough power to pull me up on a wakeboard and I weigh about 240 lbs and the jet ski struggles so I want to know if a 4.3 liter with 190 hp will get the job done with more ease. Thank you for your time.

  1. It will, a prop is more efficient then a jet, the engine has more hp (190 vs 155) and has much more torque then the 155.

  2. that will work plus if you had to you can change the prop for more whole shot

  3. Any boat or craft with the same horsepower and same thrust power applied using a prop will always be more efficient than a impeller system used by a personal watercraft or jet boat.

You can ask your local marine mechanic, dealership, or a boater/PWC user with a lot of years of experience.  They should say the same thing.

Be careful of changing the prop's pitch as it can cause your inboard/outboard to either bog down due to excessive load per rotation or over rev (too high RPM) due to not enough load per rotation.  Research your choice before changing to a prop with a different pitch.
