Question:

Will an adopted cat recognize his siblings after 6 months?

I adopted my cat in the spring, and he had two other siblings at the time. They were about 9 months in the spring. The other two were adopted, but then returned to mspcaa (but the shelter went to grab them quick). If I go to adopt these cats, will my cat recognize that they are related (and ifso, is this amiable?)

  1. No.  I got Cornbread as an 8 week old kitten.  At his 1 year check up, I decided to show him off to the people I got him from. He was terrified of them and of his mother. That's not to say you won't be able to integrate the cats into your home, just that they won't consider each other as family.  They will probably get along as well as any other cats though.

  2. There's a good chance they will. I adopted a kitten over a year ago. She was very hostile towards other cats, and took a long time to warm up to the second cat I adopted. I just recently adopted a third kitten that is closely related to my first, and raised in the same foster home. She took to her like they we're long lost sisters. She immediately started grooming her which she would never do with another cat.

If they don't get along right away they can still live happily together, you just need to introduce them slowly.

  3. there is a small chance he will but even if they dont they might still get along! you should give it a shot!

  4. no they wont,i have 3 mothers who don't get on with their daughters any more, and brothers and sisters who don't get on and all of them i have had from birth.i have a mother who will get on with the other ones daughter but not her own.and i have sisters who wont get on with each other.they are all 15,16 and 17 now.

  5. Probably. They will remember by smell at the very least, just give it some time. That is so nice of you by the way. It should be amiable.

  6. Your cat might recognize them but most likely will not because they have been apart for so long. My cat i have bottle fed her since she was two days. At two months i took her home and two months later i started taking her to visit her siblings and she did not recgognize them.

  7. I would think there might be a little hissing at first, but at that young bouncy age I would really be surprised if they don't start playing together very quickly.
