I have a coworker who is in china and she is having trouble connecting to a wireless network in her hotel? Do we share the same technologies with china, and is it possible to connect wirelessly to a chinese network?

I know they have different cell phone tech than we do. Not sure about laptops.

  1. haha, pc hardware is built around the OSI model, so yes it will work if you know what you are doing. I dont mean to sound harsh but computers do not speak the same language as us, their language is called protocols. Sorry but too much to explain but your friend should not have any problems connecting to the wireless network.

Make sure her wireless card is enabled.

    Refresh the network list.

    Restart the Zero wireless service.

Check the type of encryption that the hotel is using and make sure she has the same encryption type configured on her laptop.

Hope this helps, probably best for her to ask the hotel staff to help her.

  2. I am 99% sure they use the same technologies as us in regards to the wireless network

  3. The obvious answer is there are NO American laptops, they're all made in China anyway.

She needs the SSID and Key to create a connection. Power conncetions are different.

    Cheers

  4. it should work.  Has she tried calling the front desk?

  5. All wireless networks everywhere in the world share the same group of standards so you will be able to connect in China.

  6. yep you can.. I travel to China and Taiwan and I connect to the Hotels wireless all the time.

Now what could be the issue is the type of encryption.... if the users laptop/wireless card is not set up for the networks encryption... that could be one issue

The other, but not always obvious issue is that the user is just not allowed to access the network!!!!
