  1. No, a simple ATSC air conversion box will not work on cable because it does not contain a QAM tuner in it, a QAM tuner is required to get digital cable channels

    I am not sure if there are QAM tuners that are not HDTV tuners out yet though, though you could get an HD QAM tuner, only the box is a little more expensive than an SD QAM tuner would be
