Question:

Will anyone break Par at Torrey?

The last three years the Open has been taken by a player at even par or worse (+5 the past two years.) Granted, Oakmont, Winged Foot, and Pinehurst #2 are brutal layouts, but not since Retief Goosen came in at -4 at Shinnecock has a player managed to break par for the Championship. With the Open being at Torrey Pines this year, will the over par trend continue, or will someone step up and go low?

  1. Breaking par at Torrey will be tough, but think it's a reality

I feel this way because the familiarity players have with playing Torrey.  Players have played it on the PGA tour and know the track and it's putting surfaces well.  In addition, since it's a public course, some of these players grew up playing junior golf at Torrey...although it will be playing much longer and more difficult, familiarity will help a player or players break par at Torrey.

  2. winning score will be +2 at the end of the week

  3. By at least 3 strokes

Not that difficult, good for a slogger

  4. Yes, someone will...I heard Tiger's caddy say that he thinks the winning score will be around 8 under...I believe it'll be closer to 3 or 4 under...I look for Sergio to play well this week and go low...

  5. Since the course has been lengthened, longest on tour, id have to say no. But, if someone did id say itd be geoff olgilvy.

  6. I think the winner will be about -2  the course isn't that tricky. It's flat which will give players a break (Tiger Woods).  The holes are a little bit longer but not as tricky as Oakmont etc.

  7. I say 2 under wins it. I say it's tiger too. I guess thats not really a bold statement though.

  8. yes

  9. I would just love to see an open final score at about -24.  Just to see what the USGA would do to their set up scheme's..... I personally think the USGA and PGA set up's  are ludicrous at best.   Ankle deep rough??????   Greens running at 13 to 13 1/2????????  (Might as well putt on a billiard table)   I got the chance a few yrs ago to play Sawgrass on the Monday Morning after the TPC. ( Still the same set up.....rough like a jungle and the greens were still pretty brown from lack of water)   Good God was it tough.....At the time I was playing off 2..    Shot an 88 and actually took par on the 17th.

  10. Yes, without a doubt. I think Tiger will be the "Big Brown" at the open. I hope he makes the cut. Watch for the long shot,"And here comes Jesper!!" Heh, Heh.

  11. 10+ players will finish under par.  Winning score -8

  12. There will definitely be some rounds under par, but after all 4 rounds are done, I doubt many,if any, will be under par.
