Question:

Will architectural shingles help hide imperfections in a roof?

Last year I replaced the roof of my house with new decking and three tab shingles at my own expense. the problem is that the roof has always had a little bit of the "Old House" sag in it. The the roof is sound with no broken rafters but the house is 85 years old and the roof sags a little. We just had a hail storm and my one year old roof is being replaced by the insurance company. I'm wondering if architectural shingles will do more to hide the slight sag and should I pay the extra to get it? Also, would a darker or lighter roof be better to "hide" the sag? Thanks.

  1. Yes ......The laminated shingles look real nice...........try to search out a house in the area.......or talk to your roofer and ask him if he's done any in your area   .....so you can look......also if you can get in the attic...take a little bottle jack up with you and jack up the low spots and either shim the ridge or brace the area that is down........just try to hit partition walls and beams(bearing points) so you don't hurt your ceilings..........you can also stuff a beam up in the attic and block it up above your ceiling joists and brace off it..........quite simple.............just gets hot this time of year.......so early in the morning.........also if you can find some old vinyl you can put down pieces.....8' wide then 6' wide4'wide........just raise the low spot that way.......either you need a string or straight edge to check your self with....it does work..............just have roofer use longer nails in that area. Yes, not to light in color. I know light reflects heat but............Nite and good luck

  2. hire me n my gangsters to get on your roof. one guy at one edge of the roof the other guy on the other end, pull a string across, third guy takes measurement of sag, build up that sag with watever u need in wood, then mermbrane, edging and finally any type shingle
