  1. yes

  2. reboot in safe mode- after updating your antivirus ( get better than norton, plz) and scan in safe mode with system restore OFF

  3. If there is an infected file and you copy it onto the DVD and later reload it onto your computer after a reformat then it will be right back on there again. Here are some programs from my recommended list:

    -McAfee 12 in 1 Security Center (anti-virus)

or AVG if you want a free program

    -Spyware Doctor with AV (anti-spyware)

or Spybot S&D if you want a free program

    -PC Tools Firewall Plus(free) (firewall)

    -ThreatFire(free) (added virus protection)

-CCleaner(keep computer running pretty good, cleans up history and whatnot)

    -Firefox(safe browser)

All of the above programs(aside Spybot and AVG) I use and have been using for a very long time now, all with fantastic results. For AVG and Spybot they are both good in the way of free protection but McAfee and Spyware Doctor are recommended.

*I suggest you look into ThreatFire first

  4. I am not trying to be cute, but if your AV does not detect it,how do you know you have a virus?

That's always the first thing that enters your mind, but not always the case.

Yes,sir, when yo copy/backup a file it is a clone you are making.

    virus code as well.

The same goes for trying to use System Restore.

You never know if you are just restoring to earlier in the infection.

I agree with the other person,Norton sucks, but it is

    not that bad at detection.

Makes me wonder if it is not a software or hardware issue other than malware.

You may want to try this.

    Go to:http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

You have to use IE browser,it will not work with Firefox.

    Run the scan there.

    Its good,but slooooow.

If it comes back infected let it clean what it can.

It will get enough to give you room to get to any of the computer support groups like "CastleCops" or "bleepingComputer" and ask for help.

If the scan comes back clean, look elsewhere, other than malware problems.
