Will bathroom silicon stop a leek in the basement wall if it has a crack in it?

  1. Foundation cracks are a pain, i wouldnt suggest silicon (although it would probably stop the leak) i would use a mortar patch. Bad thing about the problem it self is now that water can get into an area it will slowly get worse specially if you live in a climatic area "cold winter - hot summer" hopefully its from settling and not from a bad slump/air ratio in the mix. If its an older house its probably the settling, if its a newer house under 10-15 you should have it looked at though could be anything from nothing at all, to poor footing subbase, concrete watered to much, or not having air added to the concrete in order to allow it to contract and expand without breaking.


  2. Probably but only for a little while. You need the proper stuff for leaks in poured basement concrete. See your local hardware store.

  3. Look for hydraulic cement. That will expand and stop the leak on the inside. You really need to excavate the soil away from the foundation on the outside and repair and seal the crack there for a permanent fix.
