I want some good swiss chocolates for my mom. The chocolate can't be too perishable, as it'll be a week before I go home and mom tends to spread her chocolate out over a few weeks. I'll definitely be in Geneva, and then probably either to Bern or Zurich.

  1. Swiss chocolate has a relative longevity, at least 6 months, but you have to protect it from heat.

A very good chocolate is the Giandor produced by Frey.

You will find it in every Migros store (this is a chain of shops all over Switzerland in every city and village). In larger Migros stores you will find an assortment of 50 - 100 different chocolates, all of a good quality. Avoid those chocolate wrapped in green paper and denoted M Budget, this one is of a mediocre quality.

Of course you can get chocolate also in each chocolaterie but it will be considerably more expensive. Famous swiss chocolate names are Lindt & Sprüngli, Tobler, Cailler, Suchard, Camille Bloch, Maestrani.

    happy shopping :)

  2. Manor Dept store have a huge variety of chocolates from several manufactures. Check them out.  In Geneva near the train station (about 4 blocks)

Also, you may be surprise that chocolate from Switzerland may be cheaper in your country  !!!

I live in USA, and Swiss made chocolate are a bit cheaper here.

  3. The Lindt factory is just outside Zuerich (at least it was when I lived there ... quite a few years ago now!) ... easy to get there on the train ... I think the nearest station is Rueschlikon. You'll smell it long before you see it!
