  1. Yes there will be people to help you at both airports.

  2. Don't be scared! I live in LA & have family in London, and have taken at least three trips between the two cities every year since I was 13, usually by myself, & have never had a problem. I'm actually flying the reverse route that you are - from LDN to LAX - this week!

Yes, there are people who will help you if you get lost, but I doubt you will. I'm not sure of your age, but if you are under 14 & traveling by yourself someone from the airline will meet you at the gate and stay with you until you are picked up in the baggage claim. If you're 15-17 your parents can pay a small fee to have the unaccompanied minor service if you want it, but I think you'd be fine without it because there are signs pointing you where to go. You'll go to customs first & then to the baggage claim. Everyone from your flight will be going to customs as well, so you can just follow the crowd.

Heathrow is a really annoying airport because you have to walk a long distance to get anywhere, but it's safe and fairly easy to navigate. If you do get lost or have any questions, just ask someone who works there for assistance.

Bring your ipod & a good book for the flight & wear comfortable clothes. You'll be absolutely fine, and you'll be proud of yourself for having flown for the first time on such a long trip.

  3. I work at LAX.  Contact Travelers Aid for assistance.  When you arrive in every terminal close to the baggage claim or just outside baggage claim are Travelers Aid booths.  They will help you with whatever you need.  Their phone number is 1-310-646-2270.  The main office is open Monday thru Friday, but the booths are open 7 days.

  4. first time on a plane, eh?

just remember to get drunk before and during the flight in case it crashes..  you'll never know what hit you.

  5. I have also been to both airports, although Heathrow only once and LAX about a million times.  It's hard to get lost as there are signs everywhere, but if you're unsure or nervous about anything ask an airport employee.  They are very helpful.

*Don't* ask other passengers.  They may mean well but could easily give you wrong information.

Have fun!  Your trip sounds great.

  6. At Heathrow and Los Angeles airport, no one without a ticket is allowed to go near the gate. If you are lost I suggest asking security for help and not a stranger off the internet. Things will be much safer for you that way. I've been to both Heathrow and LAX, and never had an issue of getting lost. The signs are straight forward in each airport so you should be fine ! !
