Would like to find some interesting things to do while visiting Vancouver for a Dr. Appt. are there any nice walking areas be it with nature, parks, trails or shopping nearby. And what about getting around? Is there good public transit or should we plan on taking cabs?

  1. Vancouver General Hospital is on the Broadway corridor and is extremely close to shopping, restaurants, clubs etc.  If you head north from the hospital (towards the mountains) there is a great walkway along False Creek which was the site of Expo 86 however it is quite a steep hill you have to navigate so you might want to take a taxi at least up the hill.  The main entertainment area of Vancouver is on Granville Street and down in Gastown and these locations are easily reached by bus.  Granville Street is quite the place on the weekends so be prepared for drunks and druggies.

  2. get a day pass for transit  go to Quuen Elizbeth  park     Granville island Lots to see & do  go to tourismvancouver

  3. yeah vancouver has lots of parks and trails, and like the prev person, youre in a good area regards transport.

The other person mentions stanley park which i recommend too, and youre not too far from Queen Elizabeth gardens which is nice to stroll around. Its really well kept, and beautifully laid out.

Also if you walk north down to the water, you can walk all around the seawall, which if you head west will you take up by kitsilano beach, and heading east on the seawall will take you along false creek..either way you get some lovely views of downtown vancouver. If you want to go a bit further you could go to north vancouver which is where the mountains are, so lots of trails.(you can take the bus to downtown, then get on the seabus to get to norht van) Especially nice is Lynn Canyon, and i like lighthouse park which is in west vancouver but you can take a bus from downtown so not too hard to get there.

Theres a lot of trails over by UBC (west of where you are), which again you can bus to from broadway (9th ave). Its called the pacific something or other..lol, cant quite remember but anyone in vancouver will know if you mention UBC (which is the uni by the way)

Transport is good,so try avoid cabs if you can..they can be expensive. The skytrain doesnt run up by where you are but theres plenty of buses.

www.translink.bc.ca   where you can check routes and times.

West 4th ave is good shopping area, but downtown robson street is a good place to go too. Theres a huge mall out in metrotown, which you can take the skytrain to in about 20mins from downtown. It brings you right to the entrance basically.

  4. There's good transit near the hospital and through downtown, best if you walk downhill to Broadway(9th Ave), the hospital is on 12th, more or less. There aren't a lot of parks near the hospital but Stanley Park is easy to get to on the bus, as are the West End, Coal Harbour and English Bay(for strolling), Robson St(shopping or just window shopping), Gastown(playing tourist). If you take a bus out along 4th Ave to Jericho Beach, you can walk for miles along the beach there.
