It will be a 2nd grade classroom and I will be teaching there in the fall of 08. So many choices having a hard time narrowing it down to one that 2nd graders will also understand at the same time!

  1. How you kicked our arses in the Revolutionary War.

    HAHAHA Just kiddng mate.

How if it weren't for British settlers, America might not be the great country that it is today.

How English laws are the same as American laws.

"       "         government is similar to American.

How many different states and towns share the same names as English towns.

There's a ton to talk about, mate. We have over 200 years of history together. I'm sure an educated man such as yourself can come up with something.

    CHEERS!!!!

  2. tell them how america became so divers. like explain how the "white man" ended up settling on the native people's land and called it theirs. and also, tell them how black people ended up over here too while your at it.(NO OFFENSE TO WHITE PEOPLE)

  3. It would depend on what the curriculum said. Are you teaching about the history of America or geography or the political structure? I know these are 2nd graders but it kind of makes a difference.

I think it would be really interesting to somehow link your lesson to the upcoming presidential race. We (Americans) will be voting the first Tuesday in November. Its always easier to "get" something when you experience it-- these kids wouldn't remember the last election. I teach middle school and we had our 8th graders participate in a mock primary election this past February. Good Luck!
