From previous trip many years ago, I recall there were public phones built into stone walls, outdoors, many places; I didn't have the savy to get a pre-paidphone card and be able to use it; it may be more technologically advanced now, & perhaps I will be able to use it from the inside of the hotel, or my room, now. Would appreciate info. Thanks.

  1. PennyTalk is a god pre-paid calling card, unlike many other pre-paid calling cards I have tried this one was the best. I live in the U.S, but used to call Canada quite often to talk to a friend. We talked one day for several hours and only cost a few dollars.

The rate for me (U.S calling to Canada was $0.01 per minute, and U.S calling to France is $0.02 per minute)

However, the rate for calling from France to the U.S is $0.17 per minute.

  2. If you have a laptop, this is a better option than getting a calling card.  Sign up for the service at this link below... you will get voip phone service that uses the internet to make phone calls.  It's cheap - like $40 for the whole year and then like $20 a year.  You will take this little device to france with you... hook it up to your laptop in the hotel and voila - local phone service... you will call the US as if you were at your house... and when friends and family call you.. they will call your home number... your phone will ring in france... pretty cool stuff.. And you get cheap phone service ($40 for the 1st year... $20 /yr after that) for when you are at home...Can't beat that...

If you still want the pre-paid cards.. I would think that you can buy them in France.  You will have to pay the hotel a fee to use their phone even if you use a pre-paid card.  With a laptop and voip, you can find a hot spot somewhere with free internet and you can call the US for free.

Just thought I would let you know.. I've done it in Mexico a few times.. my family was shocked that they just called my home number and I answered in Mexico.

  3. We use Onesuite prepaid phone cards and voip services on our long distance needs. They got access numbers in France where you can use on payphones or hotel phones. Just their website for complete details.
