Will being a stripper in college stop me from being able to be an elementary teacher a few years from now? ?

I have thought about working as a stripper at a local strip club for a few months to pay off such college debt. I am going to college for education and want to know if this job will stop me from being able to teach. How will it affect my career?

  1. Yes, it can. Could you imagine showing up to a parent teacher meeting and recognising the father as one you danced for? There goes your credibility and respect!

Did you hear about the teacher (high school, I think) who modelled for Playboy and was consequently "let go" when word got out?

  2. Short answer...it'll come back to bite you in the butt.

Seriously - even if you don't list it on your CV, schools will find out, and they won't hire you.  You could be the sweetest 1st grade teacher out there, but if word got out that a school hired an ex-stripper to teach the neighborhood 6yo's, it wouldn't be good.

  3. As long as you don't list your stripper work on your CV it shouldn't harm your career at all. Lots of girls strip to put themselves through college (one in thirty supposedly in the UK) and they go on to have successful careers.

  4. You better hope that you are not applying to anywhere your customers might live like near your strip club.

Teachers are role models and I know if my principal found out, you probably wouldn't be hired. Would they admit that to your face - No. I've googled possible teachers before during the hiring process. Becareful of what is out ther about you.

If you do get hired, I would highly suggest you go the ultra conservative route and don't go by the name that you went with when you stripped. That is not a lifestyle that you can openly have in an elementary schools. If parents found out, they would eat you alive.

  5. Probably! Morals are a big part of teaching.

  6. It wouldn't help. Most employers do a google search when looking over a resume. And for some reason in the future, your name may come up associated with an adult club. Many people (either liberal or conservative) wouldn't jump at the opportunity to hire you to look after their children if they knew about your past. People want role models for their children, and unfortunately, even if you were the sweetest person in the world, society looks down upon exotic dancers.

Why don't you dance at a danceclub or a cabaret to make extra money?

  7. If they found out, probably.  I wouldn't mention it on your resume.  They don't get to audit your tax return, so, unless someone saw and remembered you, how would they ever know?

  8. I don't think that it will look that great on your resume.  I would assume the pay is good, but I think it could come back to haunt you.  I suppose if you lived in some large city where this sort of thing is commonplace, ie Vegas, it might not matter, but I think that for most places, this would not be a good idea.

  9. This doesn't come up i a back ground check. .

You are also not employed by the company, they don't pay you.

You are instead considered a private contractor.

You file your own taxes, there are no W-2 forms or anything, and you say that you work for yourself.

I'm dancing to put myself through college.

Just don't put it on any loan applications or anything. . .

It's not the most fun job, but it's a great temporary job to help out or to add to your income.

Lots of girls I work with are in school, have kids they need to be with during the day, or work a different job during the day. . .

  10. I don't see how it could affect your future career as an educator. There may be a few uppity parents who would consider you unfit to be a teacher, wondering what sort of lessons you will be conducting. But unless they had themselves visited your club, I don't see how anyone would know, it's not the business of anyone else.

That said, I wouldn't advertise it as a skill on your resume, no need to give people a reason to display their ignorance.

  11. I'm not sure, I think first i would try working as a server in a quality restraunt. The tips there should be good enough to assist you with any ongoing debt. A stripper doesn't look too good on a resume i don't believe. Good luck to you....
