Will black tape melt/- catch fire from engine heat?

  1. if you mean a car engine, then maybe. If on wires near the engine, its fine. But if you're trying to fix a cracked head, black tape is not the thing to use and not only will it melt, it won't fix the crack.

  3. Well, black is a color, not a material....  

    And where on the engine ?

    If you mean black electrical tape, that is usually PVC, and will definitely melt if on the exhaust manifold, probably not on a radiator hose.
